Haryana shows increase in wheat and gram sowing this Rabi

Chandigarh, Feb 13 (UNI) During this Rabi sowing season, there has been an increase of 2.27 per cent or 0.54 lakh hectares under wheat and 15.74 per cent or 0.17 lakh hectares in area under gram in Haryana.

Director Agriculture, Haryana Sumita Misra said Wheat, mustard and gram, the major Rabi crops has been sown over an area of 24.30 lakh hectares, 5.50 lakh hectares and 1.25 lakh hectares respectively in the current Rabi season as compared to 23.76 lakh hectares, 5.97 lakh hectares and 1.08 lakh hectare respectively in the last Rabi season.

All these Rabi crops of wheat, gram and oilseeds were predominantly free from the attack of pests and diseases.

The attack of pests and diseases in the crop had been minimized due to concerted extension and farmer education activities of the Agriculture Department.

The minor attacks wherever observed, was much below the Economical Threshold Level (ETL).

Ms Misra said that however, with the rise in temperature in the coming weeks the incidence of aphid in mustard and wheat, heliothis in gram crops might appear in pockets.

Farmers were thus advised to spray the affected wheat crop with recommended pesticides namely Fenitrothion 50EC or Endosulfan 35C or Malathion 50EC and Mustard Crop with Methyl dematon 25EC or Dimethoate 30C for controlling Aphid.

For controlling heliothis in Gram crop, farmers were advised to spray the crop with Endosulfan 35EC or Monocrotophos 36SL or Fenvelrate 20EC or Cypermethrin 10 EC or Quinalphos 25EC or Carbryl 50 WP.

She further disclosed that the prevailing low temperature was immensely beneficial for the wheat crop. She advised the farmers to provide light irrigation to save the crops from frost.
