Games Village would change scenario of East Delhi: Sheila

New Delhi, Feb 13 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today said in the run up to the 2010 Commonwealth Games, the National Capital, especially East Delhi, will witness tremendous infrastructural development.

Talking to reporters after laying the foundation stone of a community centre at Gokulpur Village in East Delhi, Ms Dikshit said construction of the Games villages in the Trans Yamuna Area will not only catalyse all round development of the area but would also ensure civic services and civic infrastructure on a par with the most developed localities of New Delhi.

Speaking at the function, where area MP Sandeep Dikshit, Chairman of the Trans Yamuna Development Board Narendra Nath and local MLA Baljor Singh were present, the Chief Minister said her Government was fully conscious of the developmental needs of the Trans Yamuna area and was committed to fulfilling them in the earnest.

In this context, she informed that the past few years had witnessed coming up of super speciality and other hospitals, community and cultural centres in the area and with the growth catalyzed by the proposed construction of the Commonwealth Games Village in the area, East Delhi was expected to be on a par with any other developed area of the Capital.

The Chief Minister informed that with the completion of this community centre, of the 32 planned across East Delhi, 28 have already been operational in East Delhi.

Ms Dikshit said after the completion of works on Community Centre, the Trans Yamuna Development Board will undertake construction of about 50-60 public toilets in East Delhi region.

This, she hoped, will go a long way in serving the sanitation needs of the area.
