Puducherry, Feb 13: CPI Puducherry Secretary Na Ra Kalainathan today said setting up of a coordination committee was very essential for the smooth functioning of government in Union Territory.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Kalainathan said the party had already informed AICC representatives--Motilal Vora and Hariprasad--that a coordination committee, having members of all political parties supporting the government, should be constituted to guide the government.
Mr Kalainathan said several promises given on the floor of the House, including distribution of free colour television sets, were yet to be implemented.
Stating that the government should not make efforts to protect corrupt officials, Mr Kalainathan said the party, if necessary, would launch agitations if the government failed to take action against PWD Chief Engineer C Anandan, who had been charge sheeted by the CBI for amassing wealth disproportionate to his known source of income.
He wondered why the Chief Minister had failed to take effective steps for getting statehood for Puducherry after adopting a unanimous resolution in the territorial Assembly in this regard.
