Chennai, Feb 13 (UNI) In a bid to infuse fresh blood into the party, the Opposition AIADMK today announced formation of youth brigades in every nook and corner of Tamil Nadu to strengthen its base at the grassroots level.
An announcement to this effect was made by AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa while addressing the party General Council at suburban Vaanagaram.
The formation of these brigades comes in the backdrop of the ruling DMK successfully hosting its first-ever youth conference at Tirunelveli recently and fledgling parties like the DMDK of actor-politician Vijaykant and the All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi of actor R Saratkumar going all out to woo youth into their party fold.
Stating that there would be separate brigades for men and women, Ms Jayalalithaa said it would be formed in all municipalities, panchayats, villages, towns and corporations.
Each brigade, with 27 members in the 18-25 age group, would have a President, two Vice-Presidents, a Secretary, two Joint Secretaries, two Deputy Secretaries and a Treasurer. The brigades would regularly interact with people at the local level and redress their grievances, she said.
''Once they crossed the age of 25, they would either become members of the MGR Youth Wing or the Jayalalithaa Peravai,'' she said, fixing a maximum of 35 and 40 as age limits for being members of the youth wing and the Peravai respectively.
After serving as the members of the youth wing and Peravai, they would become regular members of the party, she added.
