57 more candidates file nominations in Meghalaya

Shillong, Feb 13 (UNI) Another 57 more candidates in Meghalaya filed nomination papers for the March 3 Assembly polls.

Urban Affairs Minister and Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) president Paul Lyngdoh, seeking re-election for second time, filed his nomination from Jaiaw Assembly constituency.

He is pitted against Congress candidate A H Scott Lyngdoh whom he defeated in 2003 Assembly polls.

Public Health Engineering Minister Prestone Tynsong is also seeking re-election for the second time from Lyngkyrdem constituency. He will face former Congress Minister D R Nongkynrih, who is now contesting on KHNAM ticket.

Veteran political leader and Hill State People's Democratic Party supremo Hoping Stone Lyngdoh filed his nomination papers from Nongstoin constituency. Mr Lyngdoh, the oldest sitting legislator, had never lost a single election which he contested.

Five women candidates, including social activists Irene Patricia Hujon filed her nomination papers from Laban constituency on Lok Jan Shakti Party ticket.

The last date of filing nomination is February 15 and last date of withdrawal is February 18.

Counting of votes will take place on March seven.
