New Delhi, Feb 12 (UNI) Municipal College, Rourkela and Jawaharlal Nehru College, Bhopal chalked out fluent wins over their rivals to enter the semi-finals of the 15th Sail-Nehru Colleges Hockey Tournament here today.
Rourkela were of to a flying start as Noel Tirkey opened the scoring in the fourth minute. But Amar Nath Ram of SM Singh Mahavidyalaya slammed two goals in the seventh and ninth minutes to give his team the lead.
Nitish Bhardwaj then scored for Rourkela as the teams went into halftime with the score at 2-2.
The Orissa team totally dominated the second half as they pumped in three goals without reply to emerge victorious 5-2.
In the other match, Irfan Ali grabbed a brace as Jawaharlal Nehru College, Bhopal downed Pachaiappa's, Chennai 4-2.
The Bhopal team took the lead in the 16th minute through a penalty corner conversion by Irfan. Sathayarajan equalised in the 19th minute for the Chennai team before Irfan scored his second to give his team the lead going into the halftime break.
In the second half, Bhopal scored two more in the 37th and 58th minutes while Ashok Kumar smashed in a penalty corner in the 53rd to reduce the margin for the losers.
