Mizoram's GDP at the bottom: Congress
Aizawl, Feb 12 (UNI) Despite 9.4 per cent growth in the country's national Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Mizoram's GDP still remained at the bottom at a meagre six per cent, the Mizoram Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (MPYCC) stated here today.
Talking to reporters at the Congress Bhavan, MPYCC vice-president C Lalhlimpuia pointed out that even the six per cent growth in the state's GDP was confined only to the service sector with virtually no growth in agriculture and industries sectors.
''The state's revenue mainly comes from taxes, which is very unhealthy,'' he said.
''Even Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga has admitted that the state had received a huge amount of development funds from the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre. However, the Zoramthanga government has built no infrastructure during the past ten years,'' the Congress leader said.
He also alleged that the people were losing faith in the politicians owing to the failure of the incumbent Mizo National Front government.
''While the country, under the UPA government's economic policy, is moving ahead to become one of the world powers, Mizoram still needs a clear-cut policy for progress. We need good governance which Congress president Lal Thanhawla has promised to the people,'' the Congress Youth leader said.
