Melbourne, Feb 12 (UNI) With the growing popularity of the Twenty20 format, the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to grab a premier position on the world cricketing calendar Ten Sports General Manager David White has said.
''I have got no doubt that, in time, there will be a gap in the world schedule for this competition and all the best cricketers in the world will be eligible to play,'' White was quoted as saying by the 'Herald'.
''A lot of traditional cricket fans were very sceptical about the Twenty20 format and I think over the last 12 to 18 months that has proven to be incorrect,'' he added.
''When you wrap that up with hundred of the world's best cricketers all playing each other, it is hard to see it not working.
When Chris Gayle and Jaques Kallis come out to bat for Bombay, and the opening bowler for Delhi is Glenn McGrath with Adam Gilchrist behind the stumps, I think that puts another spin on it.'' Ten Sports will be the exclusive broadcaster of all the 59 matches of the IPL which starts from April 18.
