Other than Adam Gilchrist, who has always been there on his priority list, the Kolkata team skipper said, ''Obviously when one makes the team he wants to pick the best side. I am no exception.'' ''There are players like Gili(Gilchrist), Jaques Kallis, Mathew Hayden, Shaun Pollock, Brett Lee, Shahid Afridi and Mohd Yousuf who you will always want in your side,'' Ganguly told a private TV channel last night.
Yesterday, Shahrukh Khan's Red Chilles Entertainment representatives made a survey of Eden Gardens and the 'King' of Bolywood had a tele-talk with the 'Prince of Kolkata'.
Shahrukh seems to have given Ganguly a free hand in making the team and designated him as the captain, though a formal announcement is expected on February 19. It is perhaps why Sourav will meet him in Mumbai a day before.
So you are going to be the captain of the side, he said, ''It seems so. I have got that feeling.'' Coming back to being dropped from the ODI team, Ganguly said, ''Yes, it is disappointing. But I have reconciled to the fact. The selectors know best which team to pick. I hope to score some more runs and perhaps the performance will guide them.'' On being asked whether he saw any exceptional fielding, the reason why he was dropped, he said, ''That is not fair for me to point out.I am a senior cricketer and have a responsibility towards the game. I wish Dhoni and his team all the best. We have matches coming and they are tough.'' ''And I will get a lot of chance to prove myself too. Perhaps I scored the maximum runs last year with both forms of cricket combined. We have quite a few Test series this year and hope to carry on with the good form,'' Ganguly said.
Coming back to the inaugural IPL, Ganguly said, ''I am really excited about the IPL. I have played it during the county stint. I am looking forward to the new challenge.'' Meanwhile, the name of the Kolkata team is being decided and its jersey designed. It seems the team will have its own theme song that will be sung by Kolkata's very own Usha Utthup.
