Gangrape case: accused's remand extended
Patan, Feb 12 (UNI) A local court today extended the police remand of six teachers, accused of gangraping a dalit student of Primary Teachers' College, for six more days.
The crime came to light previous Monday.
Police, while submitting for the extension of remand which was granted for 7 days by the court earlier last Tuesday, said during the last 7 days, they had recovered a razor used in the crime and told the court that they took the accused to hospital five times.
They were also busy with the visits of different organisations and delegations coming on a fact-finding mission.
Police said it needed some more time to gather evidence and ascertain facts.
Patan Superintendent of Police-in charge Raghvendra Vats told UNI that investigations were on and they may press for narco-analysis test of the accused, if it would help in the investigations.
''All options are open,'' he said.
Meanwhile, Primary Teachers' College, venue of the crime, which remained closed after the gangrape of the student, opened yesterday with prayers and the victim attending the college. Out of 98 girls, about 76 girls attended the college. Authorities had made arrangement for the protection of the students.
Patan Collector Vinod Rao began magisterial enquiry into the incident by recording victim's statement in the college campus, which lasted for around four hours.
