Canberra, Feb 12 (UNI) Blaming the revised target for his side's defeat against Sri Lanka here today, Team India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni said his bowlers were left with little to defend.

''I think ours was a decent total. Had it been a 29-overs-a-side game, things would have been different,'' Dhoni told mediapersons after the match.

''All of a sudden, the bowlers are defending 154 in 21 overs, which necessitated a change in approach,'' he added.

In a rain truncated match, India put up 195 for five after being put into bat by Sri Lanka.

A fresh spell of showers forced the target to be revised with Sri Lanka needing 154 to win in 21 overs. The islanders cruised to a comfortable eight-wicket victory with 12 balls to spare.

Praising the Lankan batsmen for their excellent display, Dhoni said,''Besides, Sri Lanka got off to a great start. Both Sanath (Jayasuriya) and (Tillakaratne) Dilshan were just amazing. By the time we removed Jayasuriya, they were almost 50 in the fifth over.'' With today's loss, India now has eight points from four matches.

They lead the points table with Australia, who have seven points from three matches, in second place.

India will next play Australia on February 17 at Adelaide.
