BJP demands judicial inquiry into threats against private TV chann
New Delhi, Feb 12 (UNI) Strongly condemning the attacks on journalists of a private television channel in Assam, the BJP today demanded a judicial inquiry, headed by a retired judge of the High Court, into the issue.
The state government including Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi were taking threats by an outlawed organisation against Mrs Manoranjana Singh, the head of the private channel very lightly until the Prime Minister intervened, Mr Javadekar said.
He said the state government had agreed only for an administrative inquiry. This was not enough and there should be a thorough inquiry by a retired High Court judge to get to the root of the matter.
According to the channel, the extremist organisation had asked the TV channel to prove allegations that the state government had bought peace with it in return for peaceful conduct of the ongoing National Games. While the television channel has been sticking to its allegations, the ultras were demanding the channel 'stop broadcasting and leave Assam or face dire consequences', sources said.
