15000 more Anganwadi centres in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 12: Assuring that 6500 anganwadi centres would be set up within a month in Jammu and Kashmir, minister for social welfare Abdul Gani Vakil said 8500 more such centres have been sanctioned by the Centre for the state.

He said Old age pension will also be raised with immediate effect. All the 6500 centres sanctioned by the Central Government would be set up in different parts of the state within a month, Mr Vakil said at Sopore in Baramulla district, an official spokesman said here today.

Mr Vakil informed that another 8,500 such centres have also been sanctioned by the Central Government for the state.

He said that the Department of Social Welfare has got a vast potential to provide employment, besides rendering best services to the deserving poor people of the state.

He announced that the monthly Old age pension would be raised from Rs 200 to Rs 325 under a special scheme which has been agreed to and would be launched in the state soon.

He said that the government has an ambitious scheme to provide relief to such families whose only bread earner has died, adding that people on large scale should be made aware of such schemes .
