New Delhi, Feb 12 (UNI) The Centre would set up a 1000 MW thermal power project in Jammu and Kashmir within three years.
This was decided at a meeting between Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and Union Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde here this evening.
The meeting said the thermal power project would be set up at Udhampur.
The State government would provide 700 acres of land and equity for the project to be completed in three years.
It was also decided that the Baglihar hydel power project, Phase I and II, would be jointly funded by the Centre and the state government.
The Union Power Ministry would support the Jammu and Kashmir government both in terms of raising loans and providing equity.
The Ministry also agreed to examine the proposal of setting up of a power trading company of Jammu and Kashmir.
