New Delhi, Feb 11 (UNI) There were no suspected human cases of Avian Influenza detected in any of the affected districts of West Bengal but the situation arising from it was being monitored on a daily basis, official reports said.
While the report for four samples was yet to come, all other samples tested negative, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said in a release.
A total population of 27.79 lakh is under surveillance, of whom 12.77 lakh are residing in a three-km area radius and 15.02 lakh in a 10 km area.
The cases of 2,269 people were being followed up -- 1083 persons with fever and URI had been detected within a three km area, of whom four had exposure to sick/infected birds. In the 3-10 km area, 1,186 persons have been detected with fever and URI of whom two had exposure history.
The states of Jharkhand, Bihar and Assam that share a common border with West Bengal were instructed to ban and prevent any entry of poultry or poultry-related products from West Bengal into these states. Other states had also been put on alert.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had supplied 4,20,000 capsules of Tamiflu, 5,000 personal protective equipment, 5,000 N-95 masks and 20 ventilators and 150 bottles of Tamiflu syrup.
A stock of 10,000 Tamiflu and 500 PPE had been sent to the states of Assam, Bihar and Jharkhand. An additional 5,000 PPE was sent to Jharkhand.
The IEC campaign initiated by the Ministry was continuing.
Central RRTs had been deployed in all the districts. Trained Rapid Response teams from Gujarat and Goa were deployed to the affected areas. The team from Maharashtra was assigned the task of reviewing the preparedness in the unaffected districts of Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling and North Dinajpur.
Till date, biological samples tested for Avian Influenza were 27 (Dakshin Dinajpur: 7, Murshidabad: 2, Birbhum: 8, South 24 Parganas: 5, Purba Medinapur: 1 and North 24 parganas: 4).
