New Delhi, Feb 11 (UNI) The Municipal Corporation of Delhi today passed the budget estimates for the financial Year 2008-09 with a number of sops incorporated clearly with an eye on the forthcoming Assembly polls in the capital.
The Rs 5300 crore budget for the Financial Year 2008-09, passed with several amendements, provides for giving free tricycles for the disabled in every ward, Rs 25 crore for developmental work in unauthorised colonies, free uniform for nursery students in MCD schools and free booking of community halls for widows for the marriage of their sons or daughters.
The budget also provides for granting people of every ward free of cost the first copy of birth or death certificate.
The budget also makes a provision of Rs 10 crore for the construction of a Habitat Centre of the MCD at Shivaji Place at Raja Garden in West Delhi.
Presenting the Budget estimates at a meeting of the MCD House, Leader of the House Subhash Arya said the Corporation had made a provision in the budget for redevelopment of the area around the Jama Masjid. The redevelopment plan provides for construction of a boundary wall in the style of the Mughal era around the area. Also, a 25 acre area within the Jama Masjid complex will be set aside as a green area.
