Itanagar, Feb 11 (UNI) Various students organisations of Arunachal Pradesh organised a mass procession to protest the recent kidnapping of 29 boys from Khonsa under Tirap district by NSCN(K) militants.
The procession was launched at Longding yesterday by the All Tirap Students' Union (ATSU), Wancho Students' Union (WSU) and Wancho Cultural Society (WCS) to voice their protest against the outfit's activities.
About a thousand people, displaying placards and banners, took out the procession at the Longding Township area.
Later, a public meeting was also organised where the agitators condemned the NSCN(K) and demanded immediate release of all the abducted youths.
On January 10, ten youths were kidnapped from Chongkhow village near Wakka, out of whom, nine were rescued by the villagers.
Later, some more youths were kidnapped from Jagan and Khasa villages under Pongchau circle.
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu recently wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Home Minister Shivraj Patil and Army authorities, seeking their intervention for the early release of the youths.
Meanwhile, the elected leaders of the district expressed concern over the developments and urged the authorities to take all necessary steps to prevent recurrence of such incidents in the future, sources added.
