KRS threatens 'Jail Bharo' agitation on MSP issue
Bangalore, Feb 11 (UNI) The Karnataka Raitha Sangh (KRS) today threatened to launch a 'Jail Bharo' agitation from February 18, if the state government failed to concede to their demand for a Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs 1,100 for sugar cane.
KRS President K S Puttanaiah, after a meeting with Governor Rameshwar Thakur, told reporters here that they had demanded for at least Rs 250 per tonne as additional amount to farmers in distress.
He said the meeting with the Governor remained inconclusive and Mr Thakur had convened another meeting on February 15 to discuss the issue.
The KRS president said the organisation had also demanded a subsidy of Rs 25,000 per acre for the uncrushed crop.
Over one lakh sugarcane growers were likely to take part in the 'Jail Bharo' agitation, he added.
