Kidwai for scientific boost to agriculture

Hisar, Feb 11 (UNI) Haryana Governor Dr A R Kidwai called upon the scientists to prepare manpower of skilled agriculture graduates for development of agriculture besides promoting agriculture technology in the country.

The Governor was speaking at a three-day National Workshop and Training Conference organised at Haryana Agricultural University here today on the subject of DNA Fingerprint Facility and Agriculture Technical Licensing.

"There is no scarcity of natural resources in the country, if these natural resources along with bio-diversity are exploited properly, our country could become a leading nation in the field of agricultural produces," he said.

"We would get adequate funds from patenting the agricultural techniques and agricultural products as well as getting licenses and these funds could be spent on research works which would enable the agriculture universities and research institutions to complete their research works in time." Haryana Agriculture University Vice Chancellor Dr J C Katyal, presiding over the workshop, said, "The contribution of agriculture towards the National Gross Domestic Product (NGDP) is 18.5 per cent whereas only 0.4 per cent from the NGDP income is spent on Research and Education." Dr Frank Fear of the Michigan State University, who was also present on the occasion, spoke on the agriculture education system and its development in USA and appreciated the mutual cooperation extended by both the countries to each other in improving the agriculture production.
