New Delhi, Feb 11 (UNI) The Congress today asked Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati to divulge the sources of donations received by her in the wake of paying an advance tax of Rs 15 crore for the current financial year.
Talking to reporters, AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh, who is in charge of party matters in UP, said the BSP chief should explain whether the funds were received for the party or for her.
The Income Tax authorities should also go into the details relating to the sources of income of those who made donations to Ms Mayawati.
Asked about Ms Mayawati's demand for SPG security cover, he said law would have to be amended for the purpose as SPG protection was primarily meant for the Prime Minister. Further, extending such a cover for Ms Mayawati would raise similar demands from other political leaders.
He ignored Ms Mayawati's threat to withdraw her party support to the UPA government at the Centre. Also, her party's influence was limited to Uttar Pradesh. In Karnataka, where assembly elections would be held in a couple of months, she had no space for floating any alliance, Mr Digvijay Singh said.
