Congress ready for mid-term poll: Chavan
Agartala, Feb 11 (UNI) AICC general secretary and Minister of State in PMO Prithviraj Chavan has threatened the Left Front that the Congress is ready to go for mid-term poll at any moment.
Addressing the party workers here today, Mr Chavan said the Left has joined hand with the party only to resist the communal forces in the country but was always ready to withdraw support from the UPA government.
''We are fully ready for the mid-term Lok Sabha polls and if the Left parties prefer a course-correction now, we will welcome it,'' Mr Chavan asserted.
Mr Chavan also said that a mid-term poll would not benefit the CPI (M) as the Congress was aware of its position in West Bengal and Kerala.
He assured that the AICC would leave no stone unturned to ensure a victory for Congress in the February 23 Assembly polls.
The UPA government was established with a understanding among the partner forces based on Common Minimum Programme, which is valid only for running the government at Centre, Mr Chavan added.
Meanwhile, CPI (M) spokesperson Gautam Das stated that the party has turned down Chavan's statement terming it 'baseless'.
