Bihar demands more foodgrains, power, kerosene from Centre
New Delhi, Feb 11 (UNI) An all party delegation from Bihar led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today met Petroleum Minister Murli Deora, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and Power Minister Shushil Kumar Shinde and demanded more kerosene oil, foodgrains for PDS and electricity for the people of the state.
Mr Kumar along with state leaders from RJD, Congress, Lok Janshakti Party,CPI(M), CPI, Samajwadi Party, BJP, JD(U) and CPI(ML), met the three union ministers and submitted memoranda urging them to provide more foodgrains and kerosene for the people of the state as a large proportion of people were living below poverty line.
At the meeting with Mr Pawar, the delegation pointed out that the Centre was supplying just 2.28 lakh metric tonnes of foodgrains for 65.23 Antodaya and BPL familes which was totally insufficient as the state has 1.21 crore BPL families, of which 1.13 crore lived in rural areas. Despite it being pointed out to the Centre repeatedly, it had not increased the allocation of foodgrains. So, an all party meeting of the state government decided to submit a memorandum to the centre in this regard.
The delegation demanded that at the rate of 35 Kg per family, the 1.21 crore BPL be given 4.24 Lakh MT foodgrains and APL families be given 1.90 lakh MT per month.
