Karimnagar, Andhra Pradesh, Feb 9 (UNI) Telangana Rashtra Samiti President K Chandrasekar Rao today demanded that Congress President Sonia Gandhi announce creation of separate Telangana state, honouring sentiments of the people of the region.
Addressing 'Telangana Garjana' meeting, he asked Congress MPs, MLAs and MLCs to mount pressure on the party High Command by submitting their resignation.
Ms Gandhi, who had put the TRS party shawl around her neck and recognised the aspirations of the Telangana people on the eve of the 2004 Lok Sabha and Assembly Elections at Nizamabad, should announce statehood without any further delay, he urged.
Upset with Ms Gandhi 'denying' appointment for meeting senior Congress leaders from the Telangana region, he asked ''don't they deserve an appointment?'' The deadline of March 6, fixed by the TRS for submission of resignations by the party members in Lok Sabha, State Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council was not to force byelections, but only to ''expose'' the ruling Congress, he added.
Criticising Congress Working Committee member and Incharge of Andhra Pradesh Affairs Veerappa Moily, he said he had not opened his mouth even after former Kakatiya University Vice-Chancellor Jaishankar submitted to him a detailed report on the alleged ''injustice'' meted out to Telangana region.
He announced that the party would beg in public places to mobilise Rs 50 lakh to rescue the families of handloom weavers, who starved to death in Siricilla and other areas in the region.
As Mr Rao made the announcement, party leaders and activists announced donations for Rs 19 lakh.
