Visakhapatnam, Feb 10 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Government will extend 'Arogya Sri' Insurance Scheme to the rest of the state from September, Vaidya Vidhana Parishad and Medical Services Minister Vanama Venkateswara Rao said today.
Talking to the press here, he said around 1,070 surgeries were performed for the poor in the state under the scheme, which was introduced on a pilot basis in three districts.
The scheme introduced in Ananthapur, Mahbaoobnagar and Srikakulam districts, was later extended to East Godavari, West Godavari, Nellore, Ranga Reddy and Chittoor districts.
On appointments in the health sector, the Minister said about 1,000 doctors, including 135 dentists, would be recruited by March end. As many as 730 staff nurses and 400 paramedical staff would also be appointed.
About Rs six crore worth fake drugs were seized from 43,500 medical stores in the state recently, he said.
