New Delhi, Feb 10 (UNI) Visibly relieved, India's Davis Cup captain Leander Paes today lavished praise on his players, saying that they did country proud by their scintillating performance to move to the second round of the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group I.

Paes praised Prakash Amritraj by saying,''he lived upto my expectations,'' and added,''Rohan Bopanna'a display in the morning is praiseworthy.'' ''I am happy, relieved and proud of my team. The whole week was a bit up and down, but I am proud of my boy's,'' Leander said.

''Yes it was indeed an up and down kind of week for the Indian Davis Cup team as controversy took centre stage in the Davis Cup.'' Earlier, Paes had accused Amritraj for showing an 'unprofessional' attitude on the eve of his Davis Cup tie.

But today, he was all praise for Prakash saying, ''I am proud of of him. We had a roller coaster ride this week with the media reports coming in.

''But we sat back and talked to each other and supported each other. We had a of one to one conversations with each other. I think what we really learnt this week that what we say to each other should remain confidential and we both gave each other a hug,'' he said.

Paes, who was the non-playing captain for India's Davis Cup against Uzbekistan said he had full confidence on Amritraj's abilities and the latter , defeating Farrukh Dustov 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

''Like I said, I believed in him put him in the 5th match and there he is a sitting hero and that's exactly what he deserves.

''Somehow I had a gut feeling that the match will go down to the fifth match so I wanted him to be ready for it,'' Leander said.

However, Paes seemed unhappy with the media saying his comments were blown out of proportion.

''If we lost it (the match) I would have been criticized, that because of me India lost the match. But the boy's saved me today.

As I always say the captain is as good as the team.'' Meanwhile, Prakash Amritraj was satisfied with his performance and was happy to have played his part in India's Davis Cup win.

''I don't think this is my best quality play in the grass court.

I took bathroom break, regroup myself and came back strongly,'' he said.
