IGNOU to confer Doctorate degree honours on six dignitaries

New Delhi, Feb 10 (UNI) Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will confer doctorate degrees to six dignitaries chosen from various fields during its 19th convocation to be held on Februry 16 this year.

As many as 58 students would also receive gold medals from Vice President Hamid Ansari.

National Research professor and Scientific Advisory Board chairman, C N R Rao and Atomic Energy Commission chairman Anil Kakodar, known as the champion of India's self reliance on Thorium as fuel of nuclear energy, have been chosen for the award.

National research Manipal Academy professor M S Valiathan has been chosen for his contribution in the field of peadiatric cardiac surgery.

Santoor maestro Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, Kashmiri poet Rahman Rahi, Asamese writer Indira Goswami, known for her literary writings for subalterns and marginalised, would also be conferred with the Doctrate degrees this year.

Other 1,01,346 students will receive their degrees and diplomas.

The Convocation of the National Open University will be held in 32 regional centres of IGNOU across the country simultaneously through tele-conferencing, to enable students of all states across the country to participate.
