BHEL to set up 110 MW power project in Assam
Silchar, Jan 10 (UNI) The Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has signed a MoU with a private sector company to set up a 110 MW thermal power project in Cachar district of Assam.
Announcing this here yesterday, Union Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Minister Santosh Mohan Dev said the BHEL had approached the Assam government for land to the tune of 300 acres at the Katogora block of Cachar district to set up the Rs 300 crore project.
The minister said the Assam government will get 20 per cent equity as returns for the land proposed to be allotted for the project.
Mr Dev said the project will utilise coal from the North Eastern Coalfield at Margarita in the state for the generation of power.
As soon as the power generation starts, there will be no scarcity of power in this part of the Northeastern region, the minister claimed.
