Madurai, Feb 10 (UNI) The Akhila India Samathuva Makkal Katchi (AISMK) today urged the Central and State Governments to take necessary steps to curb the spiralling prices of essential commodities.
In a resolution adopted at the first State-level Political Conference, here this evening, AISMK criticised the 'lethargic attitude' of the Central and State Governments in containing the price hike.
The party urged both the Governments to find out the reasons for the drop in production and shortage of commodities that had resulted in artificial escalation in prices of essential commodities.
The Conference alleged that the agitations launched by the constituents of the ruling coalitions for curbing price rise was a mere eye-wash.
The party urged the Centre to sign the Indo-US Civilian Nuclear Deal that would pave way for enhancing power production in the country. The shortage of power would harm the growth of the Industry and would also be a setback to the growth of the economy. Some political parties were opposing the deal to gain political mileage, it added.
Lauding the State Government's announcement on linking of rivers, the conference urged the Government to expedite the river projects.
The party urged for an amicable solution among riparian states on Cauvery and Mullaiperiyar Dam issues. Karnataka and Kerala Governments should honour the Supreme Court verdict on sharing of water, it added.
