TN Dist admn to construct houses under ETRP prog
Pudukkottai, Feb 9: The Pudukkottai District administration today decided to construct 2,401 more houses under the World Bank-funded Emergency Tsunami Reconstruction Package (ETRP) programme, to meet the requirements of tsunami-hit fishermen, according to District Collector D Uthirakkumaran.
In a press release here, he said the demand from the fishermen were increasing, especially after the work on the construction of 2,346 houses was taken up last month under the Asian Development Bank-funded 'Rajiv Gandhi Rehabilitation Package' (RGRP) programme.
Each house would be built at a cost of Rs 2.38 lakh, he added.
Mr Uthirakkumaran said the work on maintenance and minor repairs would be taken up at 13 village panchayat offices in coastal areas at an estimated of Rs. 49.43 lakhs under the Tsunami Emergency Assistance Project. Further, a sum of Rs1.5 crore, was sanctioned for providing roads in six packages in coastal parts of the district, the release added.
