Barwani, MP, Feb 9 (UNI) Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) leader Medha Patkar today demanded the arrest of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thakre in view of his objectionable comments against North Indians.
Ms Patkar told reporters here today that Mr Thakre should be arrested immediately for this unconstitutional act. She described steps taken by the MNS as vote-bank politics.
She felt that the role of the ruling Congress in Maharashtra was suspicious with regards to the violence against North Indians in Mumbai following comments by Mr Thakre.
The NBA leader pointed out that the Shiv Sena used to do politics over this issue previously and the MNS has taken up the issue to snatch that vote bank. She said contribution of the MNS could not be overlooked in the development of Mumbai.
She said a separate law for inter-state migration existed in the country. A rich person brought several poor people along with him in Mumbai. Their employer must provide for their basic needs such as accommodation but it does not happen. So, the MNS viewed people residing in slums as unauthorised dwellers.
