Mysore, Feb 9(UNI) Noted Kannada Writer and Jnanapitha awardee G S Shivarudrappa today emphasised the need for protecting the importance of Regional Languages and responsibility lies on Administrators and Education experts.
Delivering the 88th Annual Convocation Address of the University of Mysore here, he said that Universities in the country have been neglecting the culture as well as regional languages and education standard has been deteriorated.
He regretted saying that though it was 50 years after State formation the Kannada language has no perfect language policy.
There is an urgent need to safeguard the Status of Kannada language which has been neglected by political leaders.
Mr Shivarudrappa alleged that following globalisation the country's backbone Agriculture was very badly affected and has led farmers to commit suicides. Since last seven years nearly 30,000 farmers have committed suicide in the country and rampant corruption adding fuel to the sufferings of common people.
Renowned Agriculture Scientist M S Swaminathan and veteran journalist P Balaram were honoured with Honorary Doctorates and DLit on L Basavaraju, Retired Professor of Kannada and on noted carnatic vocalist Balamuralikrishna.
