Dharmapuri, Feb 9 (UNI) In a suspected Maoist attack, a group of people looted a police station and decamped with six rifles and a walkie-talkie in this Maoist-infested district of Tamil Nadu.

The incident occurred past midnight last night at Adhiyamakottai police station, Coimbatore Range IG Sanjay Arora told UNI today.

The gang entered the police station, broke the strong room and took away five .410 muzzle loaded guns and one single barrel muzzle loaded gun with one deposit and a walkie-talkie, he added.

It was not clear how many policemen were present at the station, though initial reports suggested that only one sentry was on duty at the station when the incident occurred.

''We are probing from all angles, including the involvement of Maoists in the incident'', Mr Arora said.

Police sources said the incident came to light this morning when a constable reported for duty and found the strong room broken.

Police suspect it to be an incident of theft and special teams were formed to probe the incident.
