FKCCI to oppose amendments to Packaged Commodities rules
Bangalore, Feb 9(UNI) The Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FKCCI) will oppose the recent amendments made to the rules under Standards of Weights and Measures Act for Packaged Commodities.
FKCCI senior Vice President D Muralidhar, in a statement issued here today said that the amendment brought would adversely affect the Packaged Commodities manufactured domestically.
The members of FKCCI who met today opposed to the amendment which envisages to delete the phrase 'When packed' in the said act. "It would affect the packaged commodities mentioned in schedule IV of the act where the weights could vary due to weather conditions".
The amendment would come into effect from May one and FKCCI and the other affiliated Associations would submit a representation to the Government.
Once amendments comes into force it would provide undue advantage to packaged commodities manufactured and imported into India. They are not bound by the specified quantities in which commodities are packed. Further the net contents of such imported packages may not be within the maximum permissible error, the release added.
