The award was presented at the 11th National Conference on e-Governance held on February seven and eight at Panchkula in Haryana. The ''Online Monitoring System/Tsunami Relief and Rehabilitation'' website was developed and implemented by the administration with an objective to enhancing transparency in the implementation of relief measures at tsumani affected areas.
The R&R department furnishes periodical progress of various works and completion plans through this online monitoring system at places, which were damaged by the disastrous tsunami.
About 10,000 houses were damaged and about 43,000 persons were rendered homeless in the disaster.
The R&R was asked to coordinate construction of around 10,000 permanent shelters through government agencies and NGOs at 70 locations scattered in 10 different islands spread across 600 km in sea.
The website also allows citizens to check status of construction at any location and compare the actual progress against the targets fixed.
