8 killed in road accident in Uttar Pradesh

Varanasi, Feb 9: At least eight people were killed and three others critically injured after an SUV carrying them collided head-on with a truck in Chaubepur area here this morning.

The victims, residents of Gorakhpur district, were returning from the 'mundan ceremony' of their child at Vindhyachal in Mirzapur district, when their vehicle was hit by the truck near Chiraigaon, police said.

Seven people were killed on the spot in the acident, while another succumbed later in hospital. The injured were convalescing in a hospital. Investigation was on.
