Railways to clash with Jharkhand for the title

Jalandhar, Feb 8 (UNI) Defending champions Indian Railways will clash with Jharkhand in the final of the 55th Rakshak Senior Women Hockey championship here at the Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium tommorrow.

Star-studded Indian Railways continued with its winning spree and in the semi-final match today thrashed Bombay with a margin of 5-0.

Captain Surinder Kaur opened the account by converting penalty corner in the 22nd minute and also scored the last goal of the match with a field goal in the 64th minute.

By the half-time, Railways was leading by one goal and in the second-half Jyoti took the tally two by converting a penalty corner in the 37th minute, while Jasjeet Kaur and Simmerjit sounded the board with one each field goals in the 42nd and 52nd minutes respectively.

However, Railways managed to convert only two penalty corners out of six the awarded to it, also both the teams were awarded one penalty stroke each but to no avail.

In the another semi-final that was held between Jharkhand and Haryana, Jharkhand won the match by 3-1.

Sarita Lakra fired two field goal continuously for Jharkhand in the 10th and 43rd minutes, whereas Amrita Ming sounded the board with a field goal in the 60th minute.

For Haryana, the solitary goal was scored by international player Mamta Kharab by converting a penalty corner in the 56th minute.

Jharkhand as well as Haryana girls were awarded eight penalty corners each, however Haryana managed to convert one, whereas Jharkhand girls failed in their attempts to convert any goal.
