PM Manmohan Singh to visit Vidarbha on Feb 9

{image-pm manmohan singh_08022008.jpg www.oneindia.com}Nagpur, Feb 8: Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh will be on a brief visit to Gondia district in Vidarbha region of the state on Feb 9. Dr Singh will arrive at Gondia airport from Pune by air tomorrow afternoon, according to official sources.

Shortly after his arrival, he would attend the annual day function of a college there, sources said. Dr Singh will then proceed to Tirora in the district, where he is scheduled to lay the foundation stone of the proposed 1,980-megawatt (MW) super thermal power plant, being erected by the Adani Group. Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh will preside over the function, while Union Minister for Agriculture Sharad Pawar and Minister for Power Sushilkumar Shinde will be the guests of honour, sources said.

Among those present will be Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Praful Patel, Union Minister of State for Coal Dasarai Narayana Rao, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil and other members of the Maharashtra cabinet.

Later in the day, the Prime Minister will meet a delegation of congress party workers in Gondia. Dr Singh will lay the foundation stone of the proposed Rajiv Gandhi National Flying Training Institute in Gondia. Mr Deshmukh would be the chief guest, while Mr Pawar, Mr Shinde, Mr Patel and Mr Rao would be the guests of honour, sources said.

Dr Singh will return to New Delhi by air tomorrow evening, sources added. Meanwhile, Mr Deshmukh will proceed by helicopter from Gondia to Ramtek in Nagpur district, where he is scheduled to inaugurate an auditorium erected by a local education society, said an official press release issued here. Later, Mr Deshmukh will leave for Nagpur by road, where he would witness some matches of the ongoing All India MP's Cup Kabaddi Tournament, which is in progress, the release said.

Mr Deshmukh would camp at his official residence 'Ramgiri' here, for the night, the release added.
