Ministry clears deck for exporting defence products
Bangalore, Feb 8 (UNI) The Defence Ministry has cleared the decks for export of defence products, aiming to give a big boost to various public sector defence organisations producing highly sophisticated and quality products, including surface-to-surface Akash missiles and various radar systems produced in the country.
Talking to newspersons here today, Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) Chief Controller (R and D) Dr Prahalad said the new policy change would give a big boost to the PSUs involved in the development and production of sophisticated weapon systems.
With the ministry clearing the decks, DRDO would launch a special drive for exports, he said, adding that already about 30 countries had been approached.
To a question, he said various countries had approached the DRDO and wanted to know the procedures and time frame for supply of defence products.
It involves time taking procedures, including clearance from governments of both importing and exporting countries, he added.
''However, we may be in a position to start exporting within one year,'' he said.
