Karnataka to set up Disaster Management Authority
Bangalore, Feb 8 (UNI) Karnataka Governor today said that Disaster Management Authority will be set up in the State in accordance with the National Disaster Management Act passed in 2005.
Briefing newsmen after Executive Committee meeting here, he said that the Athority would work as a capacity building to face any eventuality and provide rehabilitation to the people affected.
He said that the Chief Minister will be the Chairman of the Authority.
He said that Distict level Disaster Management Authority will also set up.
The Meeting also approved to bring amendments to the State Cooperative Societies Act to provide greater authority in deciding the strength of the establishment and payment of salary and other allowances. A Notification to this effect would be issued very soon, he added.
He said that a state level marketing complex, exclusively for Self Help Group (SHG) would be set up at Banneraghatta, in the outskirts of the city, and the foundation stone would be laid on March Eight.
He said the committe also approved Rs 269 crore for the maintenance of state highways in the next five years.
