Kathmandu, Feb 8 (UNI) The Nepal Police today confirmed that kidney racket kingpin Dr Amit Kumar was arrested from a resort in Chitwan district yesterday and was being interrogated at Hanuman Dhoka police post.

Speaking at a press conference, senior police officer Upendra Kant Aryal said a case would be filed against him on the charges of human organ trade and the misuse of foreign currency as the police seized a large amount of foreign currency from Dr Kumar.

Dr Kumar entered Nepal on January 26 and after media reported of his presence in the country, he went to Chitwan in the first week of February.

The police circulated his photos around Chitwan district after suspecting that he sneaked out of Kathmandu.

Mr Aryal said Dr Kumar wanted to go to Canada from Nepal.

He also wanted to buy a hotel in Kathmandu and had visited Nepal frequently.

The police seized a bank draft of Rs 9,36,000, and 1,45,000 Euros and 18,900 dollars in cash from the fugitive yesterday.

His close aide Manish Singh was also arrested with him.

A police team led by Deputy Inspector General Kiran Kumar Gautam arrested Dr Kumar from a Wild Life Camp Hotel at Souraha around 1700 hrs (local time) and was brought to Kathmandu this morning.

The arrest came after Interpol issued a red corner notice against the kingpin recently.
