Grand Bazaar traders obstruct road in Pondy

Puducherry, Feb 8 (UNI) Traders of the Grand Bazaar here today resorted to a road blockade to protest the failure of municipality to remove the garbages accumulated in the market.

According to traders, municipal staffs used to clear the garbages and dump it on the Rangapillai street, which would be removed by the round-the-clock garbage cleaning staffs.

Since, the contract under the 24-hour cleaning was not renewed, the garbages dumped on the road for the last three days had accumulated resulting in foul smell causing inconvenience to the public. This in turn had affected their business, the traders said.

Hearing about the stir, Municipal chairperson Dr Sreedevi rushed to the spot and assured the traders that steps would be immediately taken to clear the garbage, following which they called off their agitation.
