Agartala, Feb 8 (UNI) The Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed the District Magistrates (DMs) in Tripura to issue notifications to the people to deposit their firearms before February 15, official sources said here today.
The commission had also directed the district aministration to submit a detailed report on how many arrest warrants had not been executed so far and the reasons for the delay, sources added.
Issuing the orders, West Tripura DM Kishore Ambuly said, ''This decision has been taken with a view to maintaining peace during pre-poll and post-poll period. Strong action will be initiated against the persons who failed to deposit their firearms at the nearby police station within February 15.'' As per the order, more than 1,000 arrest warrants had not yet been executed, the sources added.
