Agartala, Feb 8 (UNI) The Tripura Election Commission has prepared a budget of Rs six crore for the February 23 polls to the 60-member Assembly, which was double the budget of last election in 2003.
Talking to media here today, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) G S G Ayyanger said cost augmentation of the number of expenditure head had been increased in this election.
Dr Ayyanger said as many as 18000 polling staff and 4000 other people, including drivers, helpers and cleaners, would be appointed, while 60 observers and more than 500 micro observers had already been engaged to make it a free and fair election.
Besides, expenditure of logistics and other preventive sectors had been increased substaintially while extra money would be required for distribution of postal ballots as well as preparation of polling booths and counting centres.
''The Election Commission has clarified that the counting of the votes will be held segment wise and separate halls have to be set up for each constituency,'' Dr Ayyanger said, adding that transport management and logistics of the outside officials, including observers, had accounted more money than previous year.
