Port Blair, Feb 8 (UNI) The elected members of Panchayati Raj Institute (PRI) have recently passed a resolution and threatened the Andaman and Nicobar Administration to adopt non-cooperation due to various problems faced by the PRI members including non availability of funds.
At least 138 PRI members including Pradhans, Samiti Members, Pramukhs and Zilla Parishad members participated in a meeting here on Feb 4 to discuss various issues among which major points were regarding non-allocation of funds by the administration.
''We want to start various major projects but due to non-availability of funds we are helpless. As public representatives, we are facing the fury of general public, who think that we are lazy and useless,'' Mariam Bibi, Chairperson of Andaman's Zilla Parishad told UNI today.
However, the situation has been brought more or less under control by Lt Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Bhopinder Singh who yesterday met with the delegation of Zilla Parishad and assured them all possible help from the side of Andaman and Nicobar administration.
''Lt Governor have assured us that he would be doing his best to get funds sanctioned for the Panchayati Raj Institution. We have full faith on him. Let's wait and see,'' the Zilla Parishad Chairperson said.
