Chandigarh, Feb 7 (UNI) The ' Maha Punjabi Rally' of the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the BJP has been rescheduled and will now be held on Feburary 26 at Ramlila Ground in Delhi.
The rally was rescheduled following a meeting between SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal and BJP chief Rajnath Singh at Delhi yesterday. SAD secretary general Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa and Naresh Gujral MP accompanied the Junior Badal to the meeting.
The SAD-BJP state Coordination Committee meeting had fixed Feburary 22 as the date of the rally.
The rally is being held to pressurise the central government to waive off the loans of the farmers of Punjab. In addition, a special package will be demanded for the industry of Punjab on the pattern of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand. The rally will also impress upon the Congress government to stop its intereference in the religious affairs of the Sikhs.
Mr Badal said today that about one lakh people from Punjab would participlate in this rally which will be attended by a number of national leaders of different political parties. The state BJP is mobilising 30,000 people for the rally.
