Chandigarh, Feb 6 (UNI) To maintain the fragile eco-balance of Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh Administration has prohibited the performing of religious ceremonies and rituals at this major tourist spot in the City Beautiful.
District Magistrate R.K. Rao today issued the prohibition orders under section 144 CrPC, to ban practices like floating of lighted earthen lamp, pouring mustard oil, immersion of idols and prayer materials like coconuts, incense and flowers and bursting of fire crackers near the lake.
Performing of these rituals was causing noise and water pollution and was also disturbing the eco-balance in the 'Silence Zone' of Sukhna Lake, which is home to many a species of water fowl.
The order would come into force from tomorrow and would be effective up to April 7.
