Mayawati fears attempt on her life
Patna, Feb 6 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BSP supremo Mayawati today apprehended she could be murdered by the ''elements'' opposed to the interests of the downtrodden and oppressed sections of society.
Addressing a party rally here, Ms Mayawati said she was under constant threats from the ''elements'' opposed to the interests of Dalits and backwards and had urged the Centre to provide SPG security cover to her.
Despite several reminders to the Centre by the Uttar Pradesh government in this regard, the UPA government continued to ''ignore'' threats on her life, she lamented. The Centre would be solely responsible if something ''untoward'' happened to her, she warned.
The BSP supremo exhorted her party workers not to spare the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre if she was murdered.
'' I will continue to work for the uplift of oppressed and weaker sections despite threats on my life, '' Ms Mayawati maintained.
