Maramon Convention begins Feb 10

Pathanamthitta, Kerala, Feb 6 (UNI) The week-long Maramon Convention, billed as the largest Christian congregation in Asia, will begin on February 10 on the sandbed of River Pampa.

The annual convention is being organised by the Marthoma Evangelistic Association, the missionary wing of Marthoma Church.

The ecumenical spirit and reformation ardour of the 19th century gave birth to Maramon Convention in 1895.

The week-long convention is marked by prayer, meditation, singing, sharing and hearing the word of God.

The 113th Maramon Convention will be inaugurated by Dr Joseph Marthoma Metropolitan, the supreme head of Marthoma Church.

Dr Philipose Mar Chrysostom Marthoma Valiya Metropolitan will preside over the inaugural meeting, said Marthoma Evangelistic Association Secretary Johnson P Mathew at a press conference held at Maramon Retreat Centre today.

Dr Zacharias Mar Theophilus Suffragan Metropolitan and other Bishops of the Marthoma Church will lead different sessions.

Bishop Prof Maake J Masango (South Africa), Rev Charles Price (Canada) and Dr Myron S Augsburger (US) are the man speakers at the convention.
