Maldivian President to arrive today; climate change, security on agenda

New Delhi, Feb 6 : Talks on climate change and security will be the highlight of the visit of Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, who will arrive here on a week-long visit later in the day.

On Thursday, Gayoom will participate in the opening ceremony of the 'Delhi Sustainable Development Summit-2008' and the 'International Climate Change Exhibition'.

Gayoom is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and hold delegation-level talks on bilateral, regional and international issues.

Both countries will also sign bilateral agreements for cooperation in various areas.

External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Leader of the Opposition L K Advani will also call on Gayoom.

Gayoom will also call on his Indian counterpart, Pratibha Patil, who will host a banquet in his honour.
