CPI(M) terms today's "Bangla Bandh" "unsuccessful"
Kolkata, Feb 6 (UNI) The CPI (M) said today's Forward Bloc-sponsored 24-hour ''Bangla Bandh'' had failed to evoke any spontaneous response from the people all over the state.
In a statement here, the party said the Forward Bloc supporters resorted to road and rail blockade, preventing people from attending offices.
However, functioning in the industrial and tea belts was almost as usual, the statement added.
The bandh protagonists had damaged several buses and tried to disrupt peace in some pockets, it stated.
The CPI(M) came down heavily on the reactionary forces for creating disturbance and shattering the democratic atmosphere in the state.
It appealed to the people to come forward to maintain the prevailing peace in the state at any cost.
At least six people, including a policeman, were killed and several injured, some of them critically, in yesterday's incident at Dinhata in Cooch Behar district.
